Congrats Emily! 08.05.2011
Emily and I met 2 years ago when event/wedding stylist extraordinaire, Cindy Johnson of Platinum Events, put a calling out for a hair and makeup artist for a charity event on Facebook. And given the nature of my “full time” job, it was a no brainer that I volunteered myself, along with superstar Kelly Armstrong for makeup. Emily works for Providence Health Care in the foundations department. It was one of the best decisions I have made because the ladies of Providence are one group of classy women! Right off the back, everyone clicked and became some of the most meaningful professional relationships I have been lucky to make. When Emily emailed me regarding her wedding, I didn’t even have to think twice. Unfortunately I was already booked for their original date, but because they changed it, everything worked out. No trial was needed – Emily fully trusted me after I put her hair up for the first event where we met when she didn`t think it was possible. Till this day, she mentions it every now and then and how surprised she was her hair was able to do that Emily, along with her very charming sisters and super stylish mom were a riot to work with. I loved all of them!! What I admired most was her originality as she wore a knee length wedding gown. To match it, we decided on a beachy, soft and romantic do to compliment her easy going personality.
Emily – I am so glad we had the opportunity to work together both on a professional and personal level. You words of wisdom and encouragement are greatly appreciated and I only wish you all the beautiful things life has to offer in this new chapter of your life. See you in a few weeks at the Silver Ball Gala! (excuse the poor quality photos :/ )
Congrats Grace & Ernest! 08.06.2011
Grace, Ernest and I have been friends for what seems like an eternity. lol. We grew up in the same church and always had a unique relationship. Grace and I shared a lot of the same opinions and had a similar mindset so we connected right off the bat, whereas Ernest and I had some ways to go because we were so different. But no matter what happened, I always considered him to be a brother. Now he’s my dentist! (which btw, he is great at, so if you are looking for one, please contact me ) In the end, however, these two special people have taught me a lot whether they know it or not.
Unfortunately, it was a double header wedding for me on their BIG day (see following post below) and I was unable to do Grace’s hair. I was going to be attending their reception at night, so I could at least do a touch up if one was needed. On the day of, just a few hours before dinner, I get a BBM from Ernest asking if I could come earlier than we had arranged because Grace’s curls had all come undone. “Uh-oh” came to mind. When I arrived, Grace embraced me with a big hug and all I kept thinking was, “let me see your hair!” LOL. It wasn’t too bad, but definitely needed a bit of help. Grace was planning on changing twice that night, one of which was her Qi Poa (the Chinese dress) so she was open to actually switching up her hair altogether. And that’s just what we did. We threw it up into a Leaning Tower of Pisa and added a vintage feel. She looked amazing! I was just so happy that I was able to be there to celebrate with these two. Not that I want to toot my own horn, but I always knew they were going to get married lol. I’d like to think I had a hand in starting their relationship
Grace & Ernest – after so many years, I am so happy to have you still both in my life. May God watch over you and shower you both with a lifetime of blessings!
Congrats Lillian & Dan! 08.06.2011
Where do I even start with this…?! Like the two above, Lillian & I have been friends for yearssss. We met initially back in our high school days where we were both still a little shy and awkward lol. Funny enough, Lil was one of my first guinea pigs for her prom when this whole hair ordeal started. I’m pretty sure back then the thought of even charging someone money didn’t exist and that we bartered like the old day with a roll of film or shaving cream lmao. Somewhere between then and now, we had gone our separate ways – Lil moved to Alberta for school and found true love and never had I been happier to see her so happy. I will never forget the morning I woke up groggy to a long distance call from AB where a giddy Lil called to tell me she had got engaged the night before. While I can’t say I was surprised, there really isn’t a way to describe that immediate feeling when you first hear it. It was such a special moment because even though we hadn’t seen each other for so long, I was someone she called to share that with Just hearing her excitement as she shared how it happened and the laughter was enough.
We had tried many times to get together when she and Dan were in town, but it just never seemed to quite work out – but now that we had to meet for a trial, it was the perfect reason to! We opted for a soft Sydney Opera House. On the day of, we started pretty darn early. I was up at 4:00 am and celebrations started at 5:30am. Having been to Lil’s condo once before for the trial, we went through the process (and let me know you, it is a process) of how to get into her underground parking and for some reason I forgot it all that morning. I sadly called her parents suite super early not remembering that they switched condos to her brothers a few floors above. I wasn’t feeling all that great – probably because I knew it was going to be a crazy day and had anxieties thinking about how everything was going to work. Lil was surprisingly quite chipper, which again just proves how ready she was for all this! Friendors Chris Luk & Andrew Ho brought their A-Game and did their thing. It was so nice to see both Lil’s mom & dad who still remembered me!! Long time friend, Cheryl was a bridesmaid so it was like a small reunion. Lot of reminiscing happened that morning.
Side Note: The Bridesmaids wore Plum Purple Henkaa Dresses
Because I am a terrible friend, I didn’t actually get a photo of her hair, but thankfully Lil did! LOL. To Lil & Dan, a wonderful couple – may you live a beautiful life together filled with laughter & love.
